Get started
Chaim reads the usage logs your AI tools already keep on your computer and turns them into a public profile. Setup takes about five minutes. You need Node.js 18 or newer.
Create your account
Sign in with Google or GitHub. Your account is created on the first sign-in. You land on Account → Setup, which has every command below ready to copy.
Install the CLI
Install it globally so the chaim command works in any folder and in git hooks.
npm install -g chaim-cliPackage page, versions and README: npmjs.com/package/chaim-cli
Check that it worked:
chaim helpCheck what Chaim can see
scan runs entirely on your machine. It lists the tools and models it found and sends nothing.
chaim scanChaim looks in these places:
| Tool | Where the logs live |
|---|---|
| Claude Code | ~/.claude/stats-cache.json (usage totals only) |
| Codex CLI | ~/.codex/sessions (token counts and model names per session) |
| OpenCode | ~/.local/share/opencode/opencode.db · %LOCALAPPDATA%\opencode · %APPDATA%\opencode |
| Gemini CLI | ~/.gemini/tmp/*/chats (token counts and model names per reply) |
| Qwen Code | ~/.qwen/tmp/*/chats (token counts and model names per reply) |
| Cline, Roo Code, Kilo Code | tasks/*/ui_messages.json in VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf and VSCodium storage (token numbers of each request only) |
| Continue | ~/.continue/dev_data/*/tokensGenerated.jsonl (token counts and model names only) |
| Ollama | ~/.ollama/models/manifests (installed model names; token tracking coming soon) |
Want to see exactly what would be uploaded? --dry-run prints the payload and sends nothing:
chaim sync --dry-runConnect and sync
Connect this computer to your account. Your browser opens; click Authorize and the first sync runs on its own.
chaim loginWhen it says SUCCESS, open your profile. Your tokens, models and activity are there. The first sync also registers this computer as one of your devices.
Joined late? No problem. The first sync counts all the history still stored on your machine, not just today.
Sync again
This computer stays connected. Whenever you want your profile updated, run:
chaim syncOn a server or a computer without a browser? Use the token from Account → Setup instead:
chaim sync --key=YOUR_SYNC_TOKEN --endpoint=https://chaim.cloudTurn on auto-sync
Turn it on once for every git project on your computer, including ones you create or clone later. Every commit then syncs quietly in the background.
chaim hook install --globalYour projects' own git hooks keep working: they run first. Projects that use husky or lefthook keep their own setup, so run chaim hook install inside those. To turn on auto-sync for a single project only:
cd path/to/your/project
chaim hook installTo turn it off again (add --global if you turned it on for every project):
chaim hook remove --globalA commit is only the moment to sync. Chaim never reads your commits, code or commit messages; it only counts what your AI tools log. Code you write by hand adds nothing.
Troubleshooting
This computer is not connected to Chaim yet- Run
chaim loginand click Authorize in your browser. No AI telemetry found on this machine- Use one of the supported tools (step 3) at least once on this computer, then run
chaim scanagain. - The browser doesn't open, or I'm on a server
- Run
chaim login --no-browserand open the printed link in a browser on the same computer. On a server without a browser, use the token from Account → Setup. ANTI-SPOOFING CONFLICT- This computer is already linked to a different Chaim account. Each device can belong to one account only.
- The git hook doesn't sync
- The hook runs
chaim syncwithout arguments, so it needs the global install (step 2) and the environment variables (step 5).
